Farm to Table

Our Values Around Food

What arrives at your table is the final expression of a much longer relationship. At Plantation Villa, each meal reflects how food is grown, prepared, and understood. Guided by Ayurveda, nourishment is shaped not only by ingredients, but by care, timing, and origin. Across both Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom, this connection to the land remains central, even as each landscape offers its own rhythm, climate, and expression.

Philosophy: From Land to Digestion

Food is inseparable from the environment it arises from. Its qualities are shaped by soil, climate, and the way it is cultivated.

We understand nourishment as a continuum that begins in the land and completes in your digestion. Ayurveda emphasises on ‘prana’ or lifeforce in our food which is essential and enhances our own life when digested. The closer we are to the origin of the food, the stronger is its prana and its value and effect on our bodies.

Whether in the tropical hills of Sri Lanka or the quieter countryside of the UK, our intention remains the same: to care for our land, work in harmony with nature, and allow food to nourish and vitalise the body.

Across both our locations, your food reflects its surroundings. Fresh, seasonal, and minimally handled, it carries the qualities of the land it comes from.

This approach ensures that what reaches your plate supports not only nourishment, but a deeper connection between the environment and your wellbeing. It is a quiet reminder that what supports the land also supports us.

In Sri Lanka, produce is harvested from gardens integrated into a wider ecosystem of rice fields, fruit trees, vegetable garden, spice and medicinal plants set amongst our tropical forest. In the UK, herbs and seasonal vegetables are gradually being cultivated alongside the evolving landscape of floral gardens, fruit orchards and a budding woodland.

Sourcing: Close to the Earth Much of what we serve begins within the land itself.

Our food is grown in conditions that prioritise natural balance over yield.

In Sri Lanka, the land has been restored from a former rubber plantation into a diverse and regenerating ecosystem. Across fifty acres, we have reintroduced indigenous species, with over 500 varieties of trees, plants, and grasses now flourishing. Forest farming methods support biodiversity while protecting the health of the soil. A small organic vegetable garden sits within this landscape, alive with birdlife and supported by natural water systems that sustain life across the land.

In the United Kingdom, this work is at an earlier stage. Set within open pastureland, our efforts focus on reintroducing native trees and restoring natural diversity. We are working with the Woodland Trust to reforest part of our land, and we partner with Herefordshire Wildlife Rescue to support and care for our local wildlife. An organic vegetable garden and greenhouse supports the cultivation of herbs and vegetables, while wildflowers, roses, and varied plant life begin to re-establish a softer, more balanced landscape for humans and wildlife alike.
