Our Philosophy

Ayurveda, Buddhism, and Compassion in Action

Our retreat is founded on a simple yet profound principle: true wellbeing arises when care for oneself, care for others, and care for the natural world are brought into harmony.

Inspired by the wisdom traditions of Ayurveda and Buddhism, our approach combines physical healing, mental clarity, and compassionate action. These traditions offer timeless insights into how human beings can live with greater balance, awareness, and kindness.

At the heart of our philosophy is the understanding that personal wellbeing and the wellbeing of the world around us are deeply interconnected.

Healing the Body

The Wisdom of Ayurveda

Ayurveda, the traditional system of medicine from India, teaches that health arises from balance—within the body, the mind, and our environment.

Through personalised treatments, nourishing food, daily routines, and natural therapies, Ayurveda works to restore the body’s natural capacity for healing. Rather than simply addressing symptoms, Ayurvedic care focuses on strengthening the body’s natural intelligence so that balance and vitality can emerge naturally.

At our retreat, Ayurvedic therapies support guests in restoring digestive health, reducing stress, and reconnecting with the body’s natural rhythms.

Training the Mind

The Path of Buddhist Practice

While Ayurveda focuses on the health of the body, Buddhist teachings provide guidance for understanding and training the mind.

Through meditation, chanting, and mindful awareness, guests are invited to explore practices that cultivate calmness, clarity, and compassion. These practices help reduce mental agitation and create space for greater insight and emotional balance.

Buddhism teaches that many of the challenges we face arise from the way the mind reacts to experiences. By developing awareness and kindness toward ourselves and others, we gradually cultivate a more peaceful and balanced way of living.

Living with Nature

Nature plays an essential role in our philosophy of wellbeing.

Modern life often disconnects us from the natural rhythms that support our physical and emotional health. By spending time in peaceful natural surroundings—among trees, open landscapes, fresh air, and quiet spaces—the body and mind can naturally slow down and reset.

Our retreat is deeply committed to caring for the natural environment around us. We actively support reforestation and the protection of local wilderness, helping restore and preserve the ecosystems that sustain life.

Through these efforts, we hope to nurture a deeper sense of connection between people and the living world.

Compassion in Action

In Buddhism, compassion is not only a feeling—it is something that must be expressed through action.

For this reason, the retreat is closely connected to The Metta Trust, our charitable initiative dedicated to supporting local communities.

Between 70% and 80% of the retreat’s profits are directed toward this work, allowing the retreat to contribute directly to meaningful social impact.

Through The Metta Trust we support initiatives such as:

  • Improving education, including support for schools and learning opportunities
  • Healthcare initiatives, addressing both physical and mental health needs
  • Strengthening community connection, helping reduce loneliness and social isolation

We also support local community activities and social gatherings that bring people together, fostering a sense of belonging and mutual support.

Alongside this work, we actively support animal welfare initiatives, helping care for stray animals and contributing to organisations that protect and support animal life.

A Retreat with Purpose

Our intention is to create more than a place of relaxation. We aim to offer a space where healing, mindfulness, and compassion come together in a meaningful way.

Guests who visit the retreat are not only supporting their own wellbeing—they are also contributing to projects that benefit local communities, protect the environment, and support animal welfare.

In this way, the retreat becomes part of a larger vision: a way of living where personal wellbeing naturally expands into care for others and care for the world we share.
